Your credit card is just as safe online as it is in a restaurant or store. This is 2007 not 1987!

If you hate to use your credit card open an epassporte.com account and use that.

But seriously, don't just expect a bunch of people to give you money because you have a silly irrational fear of using your credit card.

PostHeaderIcon Why cant i make profit playin poker?

I been playin for about 3 years online. can win tourneys with 600 people in them. i can place first in freerolls of 3500. i can make $300 playin ring games. i have read around 10 books on poker, including power poker. i have an A level in maths, and an above average knowledge of psychology. and i play patient, rarely tilt. i understand pot odds, implied odds and reverse pot odds. i dont over or underbluff. i fold crap hands an mix up my play. i play about 5 hours a day, everyday. yet i still cant make profit, always seem to break even. you know, grind out $50 to $100, then someone sucks out 3 rivers in a row to bust me back to 50. What am i doing wrong?

It seems that you have a pretty decent grasp of your style. I think based on the way you describe your ability/style, that you are playing at the wrong limits. (Too low) You can't currently be playing any higher than $2-$4 (Based on the fact that you only lose back @$50 when you get sucked out on 3 hands in a row.) Kind of hard to keep people from chasing that gut shot when it only cost them $2 in a pot of $15-$20. If you are serious about trying to make a living at it, your style seems more suited to $5-$10 to $10-$20. If you make good money there, look to step up. Tourneys should be $50+ entry tourneys. Only other possibility is you don't actually play the style you describe - possibly leaning on the tight side - which is why you get callers who are playing implied odds all the time.

PostHeaderIcon What do you think of people asking for passwords to tournies online?

I live in Japan and am fortunate enough to have learned the language, which has enabled me to join two local poker assocations. Both of these associations have exclusive freerolls at Poker Stars once a week which, naturally, require a password. They keep a tally of the winner's points (a leaderboard) and the top 2 get a fully paid trip to attend an international poker tournament in the Carribean. However, I also know a lot of foreigners who live in my country and I've been getting pestered for passwords. I've told them the same thing: If you'd like to join the leagues, I'd be happy to help translate the webpage for you so you can join, but I'm not going to give away the password. So far, no one's been interested. What do you think about people asking for passwords? Is it really unethical, or not that big of a deal?

I would hope if that if someone that wasn't supposed to be in the tournament actually won they wouldn't give them the prize. So I say no big deal. If it were me I would do exactly what you are doing,if they want to play they can join the club,

PostHeaderIcon Um, i have read previous online poker questions from here, and they all say that your winnings are taxed?!?

I dont play poker for a living nor do i plan to, but i play on and off and my winnings have come from freerolls, then using that money to play low stake tourneys and building it from there on. So in total, Ive made just over $1,000 in the past 3-4 months and i also live in Canada. What is with this taxing thing…? Does this only apply to large winnings such as $10,000 and up? or am i going to also have my $1,000 money taxed when i get the chance to finally cash it out? And if so, how much will i lose if i do cash my $1,000? If this is true that my $1,000 will be taxed i will be pissed as heck since poker sites already rake in enough of our money
i play at pokerstars

You will not lose any money other than a small transaction fee. and your thousand is more like 1200 cuz of the exchange rate.
I think most of the post you are reading are about americans or they are over 10 000. But i think even over 10 000 in canada you don't pay the taxes up front. I think they just send in a report to the government and you are suppose to claim it when you do your taxes.
Go to 2+2 poker.com they have a whole section on taxes and legislation.

PostHeaderIcon Qualifying for live poker tournaments online? Fulltiltpoker.com Questions?

How do ppl qualify for live poker tournaments online? Isn't online poker for real money now illegal in the states? Can it be done by playing for fake chips? I signed up for fulltiltpoker.com and they have things like freerolls and FTP and satellite tokens. What is that!? Can someone explain this to me! Thx! :-)
Online poker is not illegal. At most sites you can win a freeroll into a real cash tournament, and then use the cash you win from that to enter a satellite to a real live tournament. Therefore it is theoretically possible to win an entry into a live tournament without ever investing a penny. It's not easy, but it's possible.

In fact all over the Internet there are dozens of sites offering free buy ins to real tournaments with no initial investment. All quite legal.

The new gambling law only makes it harder to deposit or withdraw real money into online gambling sites. The law is not actually in full effect until the summer when it will be decided exactly how it will be implemented. With any luck the Democrats will water it down, since it never should have been passed into law in the first place. It was a disgusting and underhanded trick carried out by out of touch Republicans who decided to pass the law for political reasons rather than because it was what the people wanted.
