PostHeaderIcon Online Poker Australia

Online poker in Australia took a huge step forward in 2005 when Joseph Hachem won the biggest poker tournament in the world.  While Chris Moneymaker’s win 2 years before thrust poker into the world spotlight, Joe brought the game home to Australia and is responsible for the explosion in popularity in that country.

If you are looking for the best place to play online poker in Australia, you have tons of choices, but you really should focus on the main sites.  There may be some great deals and incentives to play at a small online poker site, but in the long run you will have a lot of problems.

First, it can be hard to get a game.  There is nothing worse than being ready to play poker and have to wait 30 mintues for a table to open up or a sit and go tournament to start.  Well, now that I think about it, there is something worse: signing up for a scheduled tournament only to have the tournament cancelled because not enough people signed up for it.

Another problem with small online poker sites in Australia and everywhere is that they may go out of business.  Usually this will be nothing more than having your account moved to another site or your money sent back to you, but it has been known to happen that a small online poker site goes out of business and everybody that has money deposited loses the money they have on deposit.  Even if the site stays in business, there can be delays in payment, system crashes, and other difficulties because the small sites simply don’t have the same resources that the big companies do.

PostHeaderIcon Online Poker Strategy?

What is the best strategy for playing online poker cash games (not tournies)? Someone told me they can make $150/hr playing 10 games simultaneosly. I'm moderately experienced but am looking to increase my profits. I play .25/.50 and .5/1 limits. Does it make sense to play lots of games and just play very tight poker? Any ideas would be great.

Playing multi-table require a lot of skills, judging by the limit you're playing you are on average player. I suggest you to put more hours at the table and after a while and if you realise that your bankroll keep growing , go up on stacks a little, and at that moment you can try a few time playing 2 tables at the same time( play the game for each table), but for that go down on stack (your original .25/.50 for exemple). You don't need to put more pressure on yourself.

By the way i play poker for a living and I often play 2/3/4 tables at the same time, but no more than that. So you talk about 10!!! no…NO. Dont do that you're going to put yourself on a bad spot….and be ready to be on tillt…

Many players refuse to accept that poker is a difficult and complex game and it requires a lot from them!
You must do the hard work needed to win!

If you need more advice you can contact me on my site.

Take care

PostHeaderIcon ONLINE POKER. I have never played on-line poker, but I have looked into it recently without investing my cash

Is the game played exactly the same as you would in a normal game, only with the house taking a small cut of every pot. Is the cut taken out of the winning pot, or dose everyone contribute, even if you are not involved in the hand,. What percentage cut is taken, and why dose all games seem to use US dollars as the stake, even if you play in the UK, or ireland, Would appreciate any info .Thanks Charlie

If you're playing a ring game a rake is taken from each pot - one site I play on takes a nickel out for every dollar in small stakes games - so basically everyone who remains in a hand where betting and calling is going on is contributing to the rake. In tournaments the house money is paid in the form of a fee - you'll see a tournament listed as $5 +.50, which means $5 goes into the prize pool and 50 cents goes to the house.

I am not exactly sure why US dollars are used, unless maybe the majority of players are from the US. Geographic location does not really matter, as I have played in tournaments against people all over the world.

PostHeaderIcon Does Anyone Know Where I Can Play Poker Online For Free and Win Cash Or Prizes?

I'm looking for a site where play for free, (no risks of losing money ),
living in ireland

You can play poker legally on http://www.spadeclub.com. It is sponsored by cardplayer magazine and if you use the code ACESFULL you can get a two week free trial. It pays real cash prizes when you win. They base it on sweepstakes laws.

You can also play blackjack and poker at http://www.clububt.com, it will show you the prizes that you can play for. It does cost $20 month to join. If you register and enter this code WEC97XUK, it will give you two free weeks on their site. I have a paid membership there and I've won real cash there and they do pay.

PostHeaderIcon What would you recommend as a excellent online poker book?

Preferably something that I can find online, I've found most of the tips offered on sites but i'm looking for a good in depth read covering all aspects of the online poker world. SnG, MTT, Cash tables etc.

For tournanments I've been reading Harrington on Hold 'Em, it's the best tournament book I've read.

PostHeaderIcon Which online poker gives the most money away for free tournaments?

I want to play online poker for free with cash prizes or qualification for cash tournaments. I know most of them do this, but what is the best one to do it with?

It's all a crapshoot. If you are not willing to put up your own money, the tournaments that offer big prizes are going to have thousands of entries.

One of the ones they advertise right now is playing poker at Atlantis with Daniel Negreanu. That prize package is worth well over $12,000, with the potential to win a million. But you'd need to win three or four tournaments in a row to get this prize.

Then there are sites like NLOP.com which offer free tournaments with tiny cash prizes. These are easier to win.

So if you will not actually put up real money (which is a pretty silly way to try and play poker, which is a gambling game), then you can play for a reasonable chance to win a tiny amount of money. Or you can play for an incredibly unlikely shot at winning a large amount of money.

You should read the article by Jesus Ferguson about going from $0 to $10,000 on Full Tilt Poker.
